Overview

Our Livelihoods Programme strengthens the economic resilience of youth, women, and vulnerable households in slum communities. We focus on building practical skills, expanding income opportunities, and promoting inclusive local economies. Through targeted training, business development support, and access to savings and financial services, we equip communities to build sustainable, dignified livelihoods.

Women Capacity Building

Recognizing the pivotal role of women in community development, SLS focuses on empowering women through the Women Capacity Building program. This initiative aims to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence, enabling them to actively participate in income-generating activities and decision-making processes. The program offers training in various areas such as financial management, leadership development, vocational skills, and business development. By fostering women’s empowerment, SLS promotes gender equality and social inclusion while contributing to the economic growth of the slum communities.

PWDs and Elderly Initiative

SLS recognizes the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the elderly in slum communities. The PWDs and Elderly Initiative aims to enhance their well-being and ensure their inclusion in community development efforts. This program provides support in areas such as healthcare, assistive devices, accessibility, and skill development tailored to their specific needs. SLS also advocates for the rights and dignity of PWDs and the elderly, promoting social acceptance and inclusive policies. By addressing the  specific needs of these marginalized groups, SLS aims to create an inclusive and equitable environment for all community members.

Youth Empowerment

SLS believes in harnessing the potential of young individuals living in slum communities. The Youth Empowerment program equips young people with essential skills, knowledge, and support to overcome barriers and pursue their aspirations. This includes vocational training, entrepreneurship development, mentorship programs, and career guidance. By nurturing their talents and providing them with opportunities for personal and professional growth, SLS empowers youth to become agents of change in their own lives and communities.

Financial Inclusion

Access to financial services is crucial for economic empowerment and poverty reduction. SLS’s Financial Inclusion program strives to provide slum dwellers with opportunities to access and effectively use financial services. This includes facilitating the establishment of savings groups, promoting financial literacy, and facilitating access to microfinance and credit services. By promoting financial inclusion, SLS enables slum dwellers to build assets, manage risks, and invest in income-generating activities, ultimately enhancing their economic stability and improving their quality of life.

Skills Development & Vocational Training

We run a fully equipped Skills Training and Development Centre offering hands-on training in high-demand trades, business management, and financial literacy. Trainees gain market-ready skills that support employment or entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship & Business Support

We build the capacity of youth and women to start, strengthen, and formalize their small businesses. This includes coaching, mentorship, business planning, market linkage, and post-training follow-up.

Youth & Women Economic Empowerment

We invest in the economic participation of young people and women by reducing barriers to work, providing startup support, and building financial inclusion through our SACCO and group savings schemes.

Resilience & Household Income Strengthening

We help families build diversified income streams, improve financial stability, and adopt economic practices that safeguard long-term wellbeing.
