Overview

Expanding equitable access to health care

Slum Life Survival (SLS) works to improve the health and well-being of slum communities by expanding equitable access to essential health services, promoting preventive and positive health behaviors, strengthening mental health and referral systems, and integrating health action across all of SLS’s program areas.

In Uganda’s urban informal settlements, overcrowding, poor sanitation, and weak health infrastructure combine to raise the risk of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, and access to quality care remains out of reach for many residents.

SLS’s Health Care program responds directly to this gap, linking preventive, curative, and psychosocial support to the realities of life in slum communities.

Our Track Record

Health Care in the Community

Health Camps at Community Events

SLS has organized health camps offering medical consultations, HIV and disease screening, and vaccinations at community events, including a health camp held during the Ghetto Sports Festival that provided medical support to over 500 community members and HIV testing to more than 100 people.

Our Target

Reaching more people through health action

As part of our 2025 – 2030 Strategic Plan, SLS aims to reach 2,000 people through 6 combined WASH and health events by June 2028, including health camps, community clean-ups, and hygiene sensitization drives.
