Building Skills. Creating Opportunity
We strengthen the economic resilience of youth, women and vulnerable households in slum communities through practical skills, enterprise development, savings and financial inclusion.
Economic Resilience
Equipping communities with practical skills, financial knowledge and opportunities to build sustainable and dignified livelihoods.
Our Approach
Livelihoods that create lasting change
Our Livelihoods Programme strengthens the economic resilience of youth, women, and vulnerable households in slum communities. We focus on building practical skills, expanding income opportunities, and promoting inclusive local economies. Through targeted training, business development support, and access to savings and financial services, we equip communities to build sustainable, dignified livelihoods.
Our Approach
Livelihoods that create lasting change
Women as Economic Leaders
Building skills, confidence and opportunities for women to participate in economic activities and decision-making.
Women Capacity Building
Empowering women to lead and prosper
Recognizing the pivotal role of women in community development, SLS focuses on empowering women through the Women Capacity Building program. This initiative aims to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence, enabling them to actively participate in income-generating activities and decision-making processes. The program offers training in various areas such as financial management, leadership development, vocational skills, and business development. By fostering women’s empowerment, SLS promotes gender equality and social inclusion while contributing to the economic growth of the slum communities.
Youth Empowerment
Turning potential into opportunity
SLS believes in harnessing the potential of young individuals living in slum communities. The Youth Empowerment program equips young people with essential skills, knowledge, and support to overcome barriers and pursue their aspirations. This includes vocational training, entrepreneurship development, mentorship programs, and career guidance. By nurturing their talents and providing them with opportunities for personal and professional growth, SLS empowers youth to become agents of change in their own lives and communities.
Youth With Potential
Turning talent and ambition into skills, employment and entrepreneurship.
Save. Invest. Grow.
Helping households build assets and strengthen their financial stability.
Financial Inclusion
Making finance work for communities
Access to financial services is crucial for economic empowerment and poverty reduction. SLS’s Financial Inclusion program strives to provide slum dwellers with opportunities to access and effectively use financial services. This includes facilitating the establishment of savings groups, promoting financial literacy, and facilitating access to microfinance and credit services. By promoting financial inclusion, SLS enables slum dwellers to build assets, manage risks, and invest in income-generating activities, ultimately enhancing their economic stability and improving their quality of life.
PWDs and Elderly Initiative
Dignity, Inclusion and Opportunity for all
SLS recognizes the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the elderly in slum communities. The PWDs and Elderly Initiative aims to enhance their well-being and ensure their inclusion in community development efforts. This program provides support in areas such as healthcare, assistive devices, accessibility, and skill development tailored to their specific needs. SLS also advocates for the rights and dignity of PWDs and the elderly, promoting social acceptance and inclusive policies. By addressing the specific needs of these marginalized groups, SLS aims to create an inclusive and equitable environment for all community members.
Inclusion Without Barriers
Creating a more inclusive community where PWDs and the elderly are supported, respected and empowered
