Introduction
Despite the government’s introduction of Universal Primary Education in Uganda, there are still significant challenges in achieving equal access to education for all children. One of the main obstacles is the lack of adequate infrastructure and resources in slum areas, where many children are unable to attend school due to inadequate facilities. Families still can not afford to send their children to school, as they struggle to meet basic needs such as food and shelter. SLS realized the need for education and its absence in the challenges that face the slum communities. To address this issue, SLS is implementing various initiatives to bring education to slum communities both in the Formal and Informal structures.
Our primary objective is to provide education to families and individuals in the slum communities, empowering them to enhance their quality of life and become self-sufficient. This is being achieved through Creating community-based learning centers, conducting surveys, providing scholarships, mentorship, and career guidance to underprivileged students in slum communities, partnering with schools, and evaluating progress. In addition, we also offer vocational training programs to equip individuals with practical skills that can lead to sustainable employment opportunities. By addressing the educational and skill gaps in these communities, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and create a pathway for long-term success and development.
