SLS Sports Gala & MDD Tournament 2026: Celebrating Talent, Wellness, and Community
14th – 16th May 2026 | Muteesa II Grounds, Kazo, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District
Under its Sports and Talent Development Program, Slum Life Survival (SLS) Uganda proudly hosted the 3-Day SLS Sports Gala & Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) Tournament, bringing together young people from various communities to showcase their talents, build confidence, and promote healthy lifestyles.
Held under the theme “Youth Talent Development for Mental and Physical Wellness,” the tournament served as more than just a competition—it was a platform for empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity. The event reflected SLS Uganda’s commitment to nurturing talent among young people living in underserved communities and creating pathways for personal growth through sports, arts, and culture.
Day One: Talent Raised in the Trenches
The tournament officially kicked off on 14th May 2026 with energy, excitement, and determination as teams and performers gathered at the SLS Home Grounds, Muteesa II Grounds, Kazo, Nansana Municipality.
The opening day showcased what happens when young people are given a chance to shine. Football matches, cultural performances, music, dance, and drama presentations highlighted the remarkable abilities that exist within our communities.
As SLS proudly stated:
“Today we see what talent raised in the trenches looks like. SLS doesn’t just run programmes. We build stages for people who were never given one.”
The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as participants demonstrated discipline, teamwork, creativity, and resilience—qualities that sports and talent development continue to cultivate among youth.
Building Wellness Through Sports and Talent
Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in competitive sports and artistic performances designed to promote both mental and physical wellness. The tournament emphasized the important role that sports, music, dance, and drama play in developing self-esteem, reducing social exclusion, encouraging healthy living, and fostering positive community engagement.
The event also strengthened social connections among young people, providing a safe environment where they could express themselves, learn from one another, and celebrate their unique talents.

Grand Finale and Distinguished Guests
The tournament culminated on 16th May 2026 with a vibrant Grand Finale attended by community leaders, partners, supporters, and hundreds of youth participants.
SLS Uganda was deeply honoured to welcome Ragga Dee, Chairman of the National Cultural Forum, as the Chief Guest. His presence served as a powerful recognition that the talent and potential emerging from these communities deserve national attention and support.
Addressing participants and guests, the event highlighted the importance of investing in youth talent as a tool for social transformation, wellness, and sustainable community development.
